Ralph Baxter, former chairman of Orrick and Intapp board member, discusses how technology will enable law firms to deliver legal services and serve their clients better.

Intapp Advisory Board Chair Ralph Baxter joins Richard and Daniel Susskind to examine the evolution of the legal profession from its origin to the dynamics that have driven change in recent years, and to the lessons of remote working during the pandemic. An invaluable context for what lies ahead.

In this session Ralph and Richard explain why firms should seize this moment to make vital changes. Not only are there clear advantages in modernizing law firm operating models, there now are clear competitive dangers in returning to business as usual. “I’ve never felt before as I do now that change is upon us,” Richard declares.

In the final session, Ralph and Richard present a framework for deciding what to do now. They explore opportunities to optimize, transform, and diversify. They challenge leaders to go beyond merely improving what they traditionally have done, and, instead, to adopt genuinely new ways of meeting the needs of their clients.

This session hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, explored the durable structure of large global law firms, the challenges those structures create, including the impediments to achieving greater diversity and inclusion. It also investigated how to create and sustain a strong organizational culture in a virtual environment and ideas for developing more innovative private sector legal service organizations.
